Configuration Options for Viewing Messages

This page describes the location of the configuration options that apply when viewing messages.

Specify whether contact's short display name or complete name and email address are shown

Menu location: Thunderbird > PreferencesTools > OptionsEdit > Preferences > Advanced > Reading & DisplayDisplay > Advanced

Specify whether messages are opened in a new tab or in a message window

Menu location: Thunderbird > PreferencesTools > OptionsEdit > Preferences > Advanced > Reading & DisplayDisplay > Advanced

Specify what happens to the message window when a message is deleted

Menu location: Thunderbird > PreferencesTools > OptionsEdit > Preferences > Advanced > Reading & DisplayDisplay > Advanced

Specify when messages are automatically marked as "read"

Configure the font, size and color of quoted plain-text messages displayed in the message list or search results

Configure whether emoticons in plain-text messages are displayed as text or graphics

Create, edit or delete tags

Specify whether messages in a folder should be downloaded for offline access (IMAP folders only)

Menu location: Edit > Folder Properties > Synchronization

Specify whether messages in the message list are grouped into "threads"
